Case Study: All Motorola's mobile phones pass through testing process in Brazil
October 16th, 2005
Global communications leader Motorola will present its successful experience with information technology development and services in Brazil, as a Solution Provider Presentation during the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo. Motorola has chosen the South American country as its only global center for mobile phone software testing. Since October 2005, all mobile phones manufactured by the company pass through a rigorous testing process in the Brazil Test Center, which concentrates activities previously done in several parts of the world, such as Russia, India and the United States.
"We have the responsibility to drive the global expertise for tests in this field", says Silvio Meira, chief-scientist for C.E.S.A.R., one of the Brazilian IT companies involved in the project. The number of software engineers working on this project will reach 280 during an 18 month contract, the first phase of which ends in March/2006. This initiative is part of Motorola Brazil’s program for technological development, which has invested over US$ 200 million in similar projects since 1997.
With global revenues of more than US$ 31 billion in 2004, Motorola has chosen Brazil to be its manufacturing base in South America and an export platform, shipping products to the US, Argentina, Venezuela and Mexico. Since 1995, the company has invested a total of US$ 492 million in R&D, increasing capacity and hiring people.
The presentation will be held on Oct. 19th, from 4:30 to 5:30 at Dolphin-Southern 4-5 by Rosana Fernandes, Director of Software Operations for Mobile Devices at Motorola Brazil, responsible for Brazil Test Center operations and for partnership coordination with main Brazilian software organizations.
